Carnival Cruiseline and Royal Caribbean cruise line have responded to Tropical Storm Helene’s threat by changing their Caribbean itineraries.
The storm is set to intensify within the next few days, as it comes to the Gulf Coast, and could be upgraded to a “major hurricane” on Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Florida has already called a state of emergency due to the impending storm.Hurricanes this season have resulted in thousands losing power.
Hurricane and storm watches have already been issued for Florida’s coast, and the cruise lines have already adapted.
Carnival’s Pradadise ship that left from Tampa, Flordia on Saturday, replaced a visit to Cozumel, Mexico, with a stop at Costa Maya.
Carnival Valor scheduled a stop in Cozumel on Tuesday, which has now been scrapped even though the ship has already left New Orleans.
“As the safety of our guests and crew is our priority, we will continue to watch the storm and factor in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard, and the local port authorities to provide timely updates as more information becomes available,” Carnival said.
The cruise line also advised passengers to monitor potential delays to other trips as the storm’s path becomes more apparent.
Carnival and Royal are not the only 2 lines affected; MSC Cruises has already made several changes to port decisions, like having a ship arrive in Turk rather than Jamaica.
Disney’s Cruse line canceled its stop at George Town, Grand Cayman, with a sea day instead.
The storm has already hit parts of Mexico hard, and the threat to Flordia is forcing the cruise lines to adjust.
